Yummy and healthy recipe OBBATTU SAARU
A derivative SARU / DAL SOUP / RASAM from south Indian especially karnataka’s cultural and heritage sweet OBBATTU also called HOLIGE.
After boiling the Thogari bele or Toor Dal or Split Red Gram in water, when you decant the liquid you get is main Ingredient for this OBBATTU SARU.
Ingredients for MASALA:
- Chopped onion – 2Nos
- Garlic – 2Nos
- Curry leaves
- Jeera – 1 spoon
- Dry Coconut – ¼ cup
- Fresh wet coconut – ½ cup
- Sambar powder – 5 spoons
- Tamarind – 25 grams.
How to make Obattu Saaru
Step 1. Take Chopped onions, skin peeled garlic, curry leaves in a vessel and fry well till onions turn golden brown.
Step 2. Now add jeera to the above vessel and fry well.
Step 3: turn off the flame.
Step 4. Now add dry and fresh grated coconut, sambar powder to the above ingredients and grind them to make a fine paste.
Step 5. Now add the grounded paste to the dal soup and stir well
Step 6 :Add tamarind juice, salt and a bit of jaggery.
Step 7: Allow it to boil.
Step 8: Obbattu saaru or dal soup is ready to eat with rice, or drink like a soup.
